Fabric Friday... the evening edition

Friday, October 31, 2014
The day got away from me... I have been working all day but this is the first chance I have had to post....

Color: FULL and Studio Stash Yarn Dyes have arrived from Jennifer Sampou. The yarn dyes are so soft and gorgeous. They would be great for clothes but I am imagining them for backgrounds on quilts... the pictures are a little dark because it is raining WOOHOO! We need the rain!

I couldn't resist those pattern prints and that gorgeous Azalea color. It is one of my new favorites this season.

It is hard to see the print on the yarn dyes in the pictures but the top ones are a tiny grid... and of course there is the Azalea again :)

Also just arrived today is Cottage Garden by The Quilted Fish. This has to be one of my favorite collections that Amanda has done. The birds are so pretty and I think this is a really sophisticated bunch... it surprised me :)

Our winner of the Modern Building Blocks pattern is:

I'd love to meet Anna Maria Horner. Not just because she's so outrageously talented, but also because I'd like to know how she manages to look so youthful and serene with 7 children! ;)

The Market Download

Thursday, October 30, 2014
Hey Everyone,

I know it is one more Market post. I am always a couple days later than everyone. I have great respect for those that can process the information overload known as Quilt Market so quickly and hit the ground running when they get home. I am just not one of those people.

Here is a rare sight... me on a telephone. I hate talking on the phone send me an email any day.

With two of my besties... Sally and Brooke

So what do you say ... want to see some lovelies from Market?

I am so stinkin' proud of our Maureen! I always knew she was brilliant now everyone else does too!

Please excuse the millions of pics about to appear
She won the Best New Exhibitor award. We have her fabric up for pre-sale in the shop and if you didn't know... when you pre-order from us you get one of these amazing exclusive postcards that Maureen offered only to us:

 You can color it and send it in the envelope that will be included or you can keep it for yourself.

I know, I know on to the pics. Here are some pictures of her booth:

Weeeee our Maureen @maureencracknell

And a close up of that amazing pillow!
Eeeeee! @maureencracknell  #quiltmarket

Here is something else I am super excited about:

The new Ellen Luckett Baker collection from Kokka. The sheep, fruit, and scallops are cotton/linen canvas and the other prints are double gauze. We are getting it all in the shop. There are metallics on some of the prints. I think they are done tastefully. Totally in love with every print in this collection.

Speaking of double gauze the girls from Cotton + Steel have collaborated on a double gauze collection to go in there next line.

it is called Bespoke... and I think it will go great with the Ellen Luckett Baker Double Gauze. They had a gorgeous double gauze quilt in the booth and it is so stinkin' soft. I am making one for sure. And it obviously makes great clothes.

I did the order months ago so it should all be in in January.

Okay I am overwhelmed by the pictures again... where to start...

We have Handcrafted in the shop so how about I show those?

Alison's booth was so inspirational. I loved the way she displayed everything.

These are gorgeous. We have Alison's book available in the shop right now. It is about Applique. Her stitching is so fun!

And just a few pictures to show how great it is for clothes:

@alisonglass  loving this booth!
You know I have to make this sweater too right?

Need to make clothes out of this!

Too much eye candy yet?? NEVER!!!

Tula Pink's booth never ceases to amaze... I didn't know you could get that much pink into that small of a space. :) I love that the Queen Elizabeth print is called 16th Century Selfie.

This is our Jessica Darling, being a princess. She is coming to the shop in December to teach a color class. I am told it will amaze you and free your mind (by people who have taken it, not Jessica) :)

@jessicakdarling  you are a princess

This is Biology by Sarah Watson for Cloud 9. It is organic... and arriving in December at the shop:
@cantoneverettdelaware3rd  just for you

And here are Bonnie Christine's two new collections that will be arriving in spring:

and Hello Bear

Here is April Rhodes' Wanderer. One of the prints has her photographs on it. I think it is a lovely follow up to her Arizona.

@aprilarhodes  Wanderer!

And here is our friend Sarah in her cute booth:

@sewsweetness  So adorable!

Carolyn Friedlander's Doe is on the way in December. We have a giveaway for a charm pack here. As always it is very architectural and spare in the best of ways.

Okay... I have been writing this post for 3 hours... time to get something else done. I will leave you with some pictures of people that we love!

@katespain  #quiltmarket

Kate Spain

Hello Kate Spain! @katespain and my favorite girls @sallykeller814 @sillymamaquilts @bryanhousequilts

And Pat Bravo my sweet sweet friend and mentor.

@patbravodesign Thanks for another lesson in life. We love you!

One last thing... Going to Market gives us the chance to make lovely new friends. I was fortunate to meet Emma Jean Jansen the designer of Terra Australis and it just so happens she has an aunt that lives very close to me. So as she was on her way home to Australia she stopped to visit her aunt and .... came to the shop to visit us. Here she is yesterday posing with her fabric in the shop:

There are a few more pictures to show, of course, but for now... I say so long :)

More new clothes for Quilt Market

Tuesday, October 21, 2014
Hey Everyone,

The truth is I am always too hot at the convention center. So sleeveless tops work best for me... since I designed this blouse for summer  it is pretty much all I have been wearing... I made 5 versions in rayon  and voile and have been wearing them every day. It is comfortable and cute and all I want to wear anymore. I decided why not make a couple new ones for Market?

This is the Pretty Potent Rayon Version (my new favorite)

I have had the fabric cut for this next one since the week it came in and I finally did it... the Emmy Grace Voile version

I rediscovered my rolled hem foot and used it for these two blouses. I love the effect on the light fabric. It also made hemming the slinky voile so much easier. IF I had a choice I would wear that FreeSpirit Rayon every day and I have to say that I have made 5 blouses with voile in the last 4 months but this is the first one with Art Gallery voile (just coincidence) it is my favorite of all of the Voiles that I have used. It is much more drapey and comfortable to wear that the others I have used to this point.

On to work...

Fabric Friday and the Giveaway

Friday, October 17, 2014
Hey Everyone,

Pacific International Quilt Festival is happening this weekend just about 5 miles from my shop. It has been fun and oh so busy the last few days. I get to sneak out and see the show this morning for a couple hours with some friends. I can't wait!

So what came into the shop this week? Something you all have been really excited for Terra Australis 2:

These prints make me so happy... they are bright and fun and make me want to take a trip to Australia. Hey Aussie friends can I come see you?

Did you see the Newsletter this week? It is a really good one if I do say so myself. Have a look.

If you are local we have a class with Lizzy House coming up on November 3rd we are keeping enrollments on the small side so that everyone has plenty of room to work. So if you want to come get your name in quickly. We will be making The Meadow quilt which Lizzy will not be making a pattern for. The only way to make it is to take her class. It is the one behind her in this picture:

We also got in the pattern for Modern Building Blocks I ordered it months ago but it just arrived yesterday. I am sure you have seen these all over the web people using their own scraps or what have you. This will be our Giveaway this week.

To win your own copy of the Modern Building Blocks pattern. Leave a comment telling me what fabric you would like to use to make it with. Oh thinking about it... wouldn't it be great in Terra Australis 2? Hmmm got my thinking cap on :) I will pick a winner next Friday... but I will be on a plane to Houston for Market so forgive me if I don't post until Saturday morning.

Have a super weekend!

What I am making....

Thursday, October 16, 2014
Hey Everyone,

Thought I would just show you a bit of what I have been making lately.... it is true I have thrown myself into knitting with a vengeance  but I have done a bit of sewing... Here is a blouse that I am not quite finished with (it needs a neck facing and hem) hopefully it will be done tomorrow night so I can wear it at Market next week. I made it with Cherie Knit and AMH Rayon I adore the feel of the rayon and the Art Gallery Knits are so soft and drapey.

Now the parade of knits LOL... I made a deal with myself when I decided to start knitting that I was only allowed 3 projects at once. Meaning on the needles. So before I can start new projects I have to finish old ones. Has been a good policy so far.

Just finished this West Desert Hood so much prettier in person. I made it from some hand spun yarn that my friend Colleen The Busy Bean spun just for me.

I am working on this Daybreak shawl I got bored because it is so BLUUUUEEE (I have discovered I need a little neon in my knits to keep me interested) so it is a slow go right now... and my plan for a big shawl might become a small shawl :)

Here is my other project on the needles at the moment... Covey in Madeleine Tosh DK color Forestry... the green is so gorgeous!

So I have been talking a lot about supporting your local shops and small business like my own. It hits home even more to us in the Quilting world because of the loss of four of our favorite shops. Right now the fact that those shops are selling all of their inventory at a huge discount has really effected us. We have had a struggle the last month or so and are looking forward to things getting back to normal soon. I wanted to put my money where my mouth was yesterday... this is how the story relates :)... so even though I have had some yarn in a cart at a huge online retailer that shall remain nameless... I never pulled the trigger knowing that I had a lovely little local about 15 minutes away that needed my money more than XYZ did. The local, Green Planet Yarn, got the same yarn in, and low and behold I was able to buy it and support the business that I don't want to lose from my "town". This relates to our shop story because even though we are an online retailer we are not a huge business and we really do need all of our friends to support us, or we could end up like those other shops. So I bought this gorgeous stuff... in awesome colors:

It has me itching to start a new project... better finish something first. It felt good to support another small business... then we had Starbucks... oh well one thing at a time...

So I thought I might show my pile of knitted stuff... I just started in January this year and this is what I have made so far:

I saw a funny MEME the other day that said "Proud to be Bi-Craftual" I guess that is me... quilting and knitting :)

Hugs Everyone!
