Friday, February 24, 2017
Hey Everyone,

I just put a ton of bundles in the fat quarter and half yard categories on the website and marked them all down 20%. I had so many pretty collections just missing one or two prints so I decided to remix them... Well you need to see because they are pretty great :P

Quilt-non 2017

Sunday, February 19, 2017
Hi Everyone,

As you all undoubtedly know, Quiltcon starts this week so for us lonely souls at home we are presenting the Second Annual Quilt-non.

Here is the lowdown....

Starting at 6am Pacific - 9am Eastern Thursday 2/23/17 and going through Noon Pacific 3pm Eastern on Sunday we will be posting fun weekend games and challenges on Instagram under the hashtag #quiltnon2017

Every 2-3 hrs from approximately 9am Eastern until Midnight Pacific (in the US) will be hosted by one of our lovely volunteers. They will be able to help you if you have questions about what is going on. When a new volunteer takes over she will post this photo on the hashtag and you can ask her a question on the post bearing this image.
Each hostess will also post a challenge, game, or tutorial. The challenges will have prizes. The rules and details are posted farther down in this post.

We have some great sponsors for prizes. Please consider purchasing items from them so that they can continue to support our community with their great products.

Since you do not have access to the vendor hall at Quiltcon you can find a lot of the same fabrics with our virtual vendors:

Pink Door Fabrics

The Intrepid Thread

And for patterns

The Littlest Thistle

Slice of Pi Quilts

Devoted Quilter

Colourwerx

Quilt Theory

We also have a prizes from:

Red Bandana LED lights... if you are a shop owner and would like to carry these amazing lights that (I can tell you from first hand experience) fly out the door contact Anne

Quilty Obsession

And last but not least Aurifil Thread is donating this awesome collection of Carolyn Friedlander's 80wt Applique thread.

And a $50 discount on longarm services from Upstairs Birdie

There are also prizes from my shop, some of the hostesses, and other Good Samaritans that will be announced along the way.

Rules (or just information that you might like to know):

There are tutorials and challenges. The challenges have prizes and you are eligible for those prizes if you enter the challenge in the time period that it is posted. This gives you lots of chances to win prizes. So you have a chance no matter if you can only play once or twice during the weekend or every time.

Some of the time slots will be for tutorials. Tutorials also have prizes associated with them but they will be awarded on Sunday. We have a tutorial for a hanging pincushion, a wool project, and tutorials for 6" blocks to make a mini sampler quilt as a memento of the weekend. If you finish any of these projects during the weekend you will be eligible for one of the three prizes on Sunday.

We will post a UFO challenge at the beginning of the event and there will be a prize for that on Sunday as well.

Come and play... do one or do all of the challenges. It s up to you how much you participate. Make sure you use the hashtag when you post #quiltnon2017

Tutorials:

I will add a link here to each of the tutorials as they are published. Two blocks will be published in the morning each day Thursday through Saturday so that you have time to finish by Sunday.

The link to the tutorial for this adorable thing will be added Thursday Morning it's up.

Tutorial for Blocks 6 (the last one): Click Here

If you make six blocks in for our mini sampler you will be eligible for a drawing on Sunday.  Please use the hashtag #quiltnonsampler with a picture of your 6 blocks so that it is easier for us to find you for the giveaway.

If you have asked a question here and not gotten an answer it is because you are no reply meaning that I cannot contact you because your email does not show when you reply. Please leave your email if you have a question just in case you are no reply. You can code it so the bots won't spam you by saying "soanso at suchnsuchemail dot com"

Note:
I know some people do not use Instagram. I am sorry. It is really the only way to run this event because we need real time feedback. I am not doing this for my business it is simply a way to keep my mind off of the fact that I can't go to Quiltcon. So again I am sorry that I can't make it fit for everyone.

Tilda First To Know List

Tuesday, February 14, 2017
Hey Everyone,

I have some ideas for Tilda and decided that there might be those of you that would like early warning (for budget planning or what have you) when Tilda is on the Horizon. Here is a link to the first to know list

These are supposed to be Christmas Birds but I think they would make pretty Valentines too. You can find the tutorial for them here.

I will be back tomorrow :)

Love,
Julie

Making Progress!

Monday, February 13, 2017
Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow is heart day... and for once in my life I was on time sending out the messages that I wanted to send. I urge you if you have a friend or loved one that is going to be alone tomorrow to make an effort to reach out to them. It seems like a silly holiday until you are the one spending it alone.

Here is the Zakka project of the month for this month... kind of in love these little coasters. I am not gonna lie... I didn't have any batting scraps at home to finish them so these are just the tops.

I was on campus to pick up my daughter from school and look at this gorgeous building that she has classes in... the lights go through all the shades of the rainbow, and of course it was raining.

Speaking of rain... I know we needed it but can we be done now? The great thing is that this is the view out of my window:

It has been a long time since we have seen that much green around here.

How are you coming on your Scrappy Stash Buster Project? I got my honey to do his Honey Do and now I have some shelves repurposed from the shop in my craft room (aka living room)

I am filling them up :)

I also wanted to mention that I am doing Quilt-Non again this year. If you would like to host, think up a fun game, or giveaway a prize let me know. If you want to just have a fun weekend of camaraderie on Instagram that is fine too... don't forget it is happening :)

Talk soon!
Love,
Julie

Surface Calm ...

and the storm that rages beneath....

Since last August I have been working on bringing you something different. Something that you just can't get everywhere. I kept it under wraps until I was sure that it was going to happen but now that it is imminent I thought I ought to let the cat out of the bag.

We are getting Tilda. After a diligent search, I have discovered (unless they are a very well kept secret) there aren't many (any) other shops (online since I can't search brick and mortar) selling Tilda in the United States.  The process has been a little arduous so I guess that is why. And of course, it is European so it is a bit more expensive than fabric that is distributed in the US. It is so gorgeous and so worth it. After all, we spend more on Liberty of London and Echino.

Check out this sweet tutorial she has on her blog for this Pincushion

If you have never seen Tilda's books they are such a treat. I just bought three of them to check them out and now I feel like I need them all. Photography is so beautiful.

Tilda's Spring Ideas has this adorable Sewing Angel:

The little sewing machine is printed in the book and they show you how to make it look like that for a doll prop... so cute.

Tilda's Summer Ideas has all kinds of cute Summer Angels including an Angel Garland and I love that it has these paper crafts too:

And I also got Tilda's Toy Box because I couldn't resist the chubby dollies like this Pirate:

and the adorable other crafts like these sweet little purses

Check out Tilda on Pinterest There are so many sweet projects there. And Minki Kim (Zeriano on Instagram)  has made some gorgeous projects with it too. I have been following her since I got her Sew Illustrated book that we are using for our Zakka project of the month.

Oh man, and just as I am looking around for more info I find the hashtag on instagram for Tilda's blog hop from last season... #tildashowcase I think I am in heaven.

January? Phew.... so glad that is over. Of course, it has leaked a bit into February. I spent most of this last month getting my daughter enrolled in college. It seems crazy all of the hoops you have to jump through. Admittedly we took a strange road through her education process from the beginning, because we just can't seem to do anything the way others do :) I decided to take a class too... so I am  in a drawing class with my daughter. Here she is drawing me yesterday...

One last little thing :) Since it is February 8th I wanted to remind you that Galentine's day is just around the corner. Tell your Galentine's you love them. I made these coffee cozies for mine because friends are the best!

Talk Soon!

Love,
Julie
